Steadfast Devotion and Fearless Grace: Exploring Hanuman Chalisa Verses 13–14

As we continue our sacred journey through the verses of the Hanuman Chalisa, we arrive at two lines that illuminate Hanuman’s unwavering loyalty and fearless spirit. These verses portray not just his supernatural strength, but the courage that comes from complete devotion—a heart so anchored in love that fear dissolves entirely.

Verse 13
“Sankat se Hanuman chhudave, man kram bachan dhyan jo lave”
Hanuman frees those from difficulties who remember him with mind, action, and speech.

In this verse, we are reminded that Hanuman is the remover of obstacles. But it’s not just about calling out his name when trouble arises—this verse emphasizes remembering him with our mind, actions, and words. It speaks to a full-bodied devotion: not simply thinking about Hanuman, but embodying his qualities of courage, humility, and service in the way we live.

By aligning thought, word, and deed with devotion, we invite Hanuman’s grace into our lives. And with that grace comes a lightness, a strength, and an ability to face challenges with faith rather than fear.

Verse 14
“Sub par Ram tapasvee raja, tin ke kaj sakal Tum saja”
Lord Ram is the supreme ascetic king above all, and you carry out all his divine tasks.

This verse beautifully acknowledges Hanuman’s role as the faithful servant of Lord Ram, the divine embodiment of dharma and righteousness. It reminds us that Hanuman’s greatness is inseparable from his devotion. He isn’t seeking glory for himself—he is focused solely on fulfilling the will of Ram.

For us, this points to something powerful: that when we act in alignment with truth, compassion, and service—when we let love guide our intentions—we too become vessels for the divine. Hanuman teaches us that surrender is not weakness, but strength. In trusting and serving something greater than ourselves, we find clarity, peace, and deep purpose.

Living the Verses
Together, these two verses show us the heart of Hanuman’s character: his ability to uplift others flows from his own surrender and steadiness. He is fearless not because he’s immune to hardship, but because he is grounded in devotion.

As Maharaj-ji Neem Karoli Baba often reminded us, the path of bhakti—of love and remembrance—is not about escaping the world, but moving through it with a heart full of God. In Hanuman, we see this embodied: the strength to serve, the clarity to act, and the humility to disappear into love itself.

Jai Hanuman! Jai Maharaj-ji!
