Unshakable Devotion and Celestial Strength: Hanuman Chalisa Verses 21–22

As we continue walking verse by verse through the sacred Hanuman Chalisa, we arrive at two powerful verses that highlight both the spiritual might and unwavering loyalty of Hanuman. These lines help us glimpse the divine paradox he embodies—immense strength held with deep humility, fierce protection offered through loving devotion.

Verse 21:

Charo Yug Partap Tumhara, Hai Parasiddha Jagat Ujiyaara
Your glory is renowned through all four ages; your fame illuminates the entire world.

This verse speaks to the timelessness of Hanuman’s greatness. The “Charo Yug” refers to the four yugas in Hindu cosmology—Satya, Treta, Dvapara, and Kali—each spanning vast stretches of time. Hanuman’s divine qualities are not limited to a single era; his light shines across all ages, making him a unique bridge between the ancient and the eternal.

To say that his “fame illuminates the world” is not mere poetic flattery. It is a reminder that Hanuman’s name, form, and energy offer spiritual light to seekers everywhere, no matter the century, no matter the country.

Verse 22:

Sadhu Sant Ke Tum Rakhwaare, Asur Nikandan Ram Dulaare
You are the protector of saints and sages; the destroyer of demons and the beloved of Shri Ram.

This verse reveals Hanuman’s dual nature—one of compassionate guardian and fierce warrior. He shields those who walk the path of truth (sadhus and saints), offering safety and strength to sincere seekers. At the same time, he destroys darkness—both metaphorically and literally—cutting through the illusions, fears, and harmful forces that try to pull us away from our divine nature.

And at the heart of all this is devotion. Hanuman is described here not only as a protector and destroyer but as “Ram Dulaare”—the beloved of Shri Ram. This phrase holds a beautiful teaching: true power is born not from ego, but from love. Hanuman’s strength is rooted in surrender. His fearlessness comes from complete devotion.
